Twelve volunteers, located across the state, have been recognised in the 2023 annual EdConnect Australia WA Volunteer Awards.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate the dedication and passion of volunteers who contribute to the education and development of students across Western Australia.
This year’s winners are:
- Bill Smith, Kalamunda Senior High School
- Kerry Sadlier, Success Primary School
- Shelley Giles and Lisa Satie, Shenton College
- Jane Lawton, Coodanup College
- Georgie Rose, Hedland Senior High School
- Don Titterton, Flinders Park Primary School Albany
- Richard Van Proctor, John Forrest Secondary College
- Susan Hawkins, Augusta Primary School
- Four learning support teachers were also recognised.
EdConnect volunteers play a crucial role in supporting learning and development outcomes by providing their time and expertise through a school-based program.
This initiative significantly enhances students' wellbeing, both in school and in life outside it. It provides the added benefit of contributing to a volunteers sense of purpose and community.
With close to 700 volunteers across WA, the impact on students has been massive.
Michael Pailthorpe, EdConnect CEO, couldn’t speak highly enough of those who donate their time.
“Giving their time and the benefit of their lived experience, volunteers share a passion to make a positive difference to young people’s futures,” he said.
“Our volunteers are drawn from all walks of life, including past educators, professionals, tradespeople, parents and grandparents or students.
