Ellenbrook hoists shield again

Ellenbrook Secondary College’s exceptional vocational education and training (VET) program has again been recognised at the 2024 WorldSkills VETiS Regional Competition.
For the second consecutive year, Ellenbrook claimed the WA School Shield, recognising the success of its VET program.
The college’s identical twins, Archie and Noah Babich, have also been added to the 83-member team of the WA Training Squad, of which some will represent the state at the 2025 WorkSkjlls Australia National Championships in Brisbane in June.
Ellenbrook’s VET coordinator, Debbie Harris, said that it was a proud and exhilarating moment when she heard the school had won.
“It’s a true testament to the hard work and dedication of both our staff and students in these competitions,” she said.
“Winning the Best School Award for two consecutive years is an extraordinary accomplishment and a reflection of our strong community spirit and commitment to excellence.
“(The students) are truly deserving of their achievements, and as a college we are excited to see how they perform at the upcoming national competition.”
There are 32 school students included in that 83-person squad.
The WA Training Squad for the championship was announced at a medal ceremony in at Crown Perth, held to recognise 213 competitors who excelled in this year's regional competitions.
Throughout 2024 there were 75 regional WorldSkills competitions held, including 30 Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) events, attracting almost 500 competitors from across WA.
WorldSkills competitions showcase vocational training excellence and benchmark competitors' skills across a variety of industry areas. Apprentices, trainees, students and graduates compete against their peers and the clock in set tasks and with strict judging criteria.
Young Western Australians took part in regional competitions across 37 industry skills including automotive, building and construction, cookery, electrical, engineering, fashion, and hairdressing.
Over the coming months, the WA Training Squad will undergo further training with expert industry mentors, supporting them in their pursuit to secure places in Team WA.
