Girls from Oz promises to provide programs that are designed to engage and inspire females living in some of the most remote at-risk communities in Australia.
That amazing program delivered again in 2023 when 26 students from Year 5 to Year 9 embarked on a trip to Perth to complete nine performances over the course of one week.
The students, from Halls Creek, Carnarvon and Bidyadanga, arrived in Perth and went straight to Government House for their first performance of the trip. They performed in front of His Excellency Chris Dawson AC APM and his wife, plus Director General, Lisa Rodgers.

Girls from Oz is a non-for-profit that focuses on engaging and encouraging young girls in remote, and regional Australia through performance. It has five locations across Australia, including three in Western Australia providing girls with opportunities and experiences.
Each term it visits schools in remote and regional WA and run workshops for a week. Eight to 10 girls from each school are selected to be flown to a capital city to perform as a part of its Travel Program.
During the week in Perth, the girls stayed with host families from the Australian Girls Choir, who they later performed alongside at Perth Concert Hall.
”I think that’s a really positive thing for them to have something to look forward to, to aspire to work towards,” said Kylie Lee-Archer, General Manager of Girls from Oz.
“And they’re all practicing a mindset that can be applied in other areas.”
Girls from Oz set up at its first location, at Halls Creek District High School, in 2009. Each term, staff visit the communities and deliver a one-week intensive performing arts program. The organisation now reaches more than 600 regional and remote students across Western Australia and Queensland.
