The 2024 graduates from Bicton Primary School left their peers with a parting gift that’s a bit different, a new community library.
They wanted to encourage sustainable practices while also promoting the school’s reading culture.
The students revealed the new community library at an assembly.
Together with the Bicton Men’s Shed, they built the library, which now resides proudly at the front of the school.
The project was a team effort, which the families of the graduating class supported it through fundraising efforts.
The library, that displays the vibrant school colours, invites the community to take or donate a book and to discover a new story.
The Year 6 Library leaders, who took part in the GRIP (generosity, responsibility, integrity and people) leadership program, presented the gift to the school at their graduation assembly, along with a special message.
"With our thanks, please accept this gift for the minds, hearts, and friendly faces of the Bicton Primary School community,” the message said.
“When we thought about those words, we thought: what better way to feed the minds of our community than with books? And so, we present to you this Community Library!"
Their library proudly sits out the front of the school.
The 2024 Year 6s hope the gift will encourage the school and community to love reading and practice sustainability by sharing and using the pre-loved books found at their library.
