WA Education Awards finalists: excellence in school leadership

Four West Australian public schools have been recognised in the WA Education Awards for their approach to leadership across the whole school.

Dawul Remote Community School, Narembeen District High School, Two Rocks Primary School, and Woodland Grove Primary School were named finalists in the excellence in school leadership category. 

The award recognises public schools who are committed to an inclusive, collective approach to leadership. 

Dawul Remote Community School 

Located in the Kimberley, 110km from Kununurra, Dawul Remote Community School has a big focus on leadership, building on the belief that the success of all students is everyone’s responsibility. 

Each staff member manages a different aspect at the small school, from community engagement and support to curriculum planning. Staff grow in their own leadership role while supporting each other. 

With high expectations for student achievement, staff have created meaningful relationships with families and community members to work together to encourage students to be strong and confident, so they can achieve their goals.  

Narembeen District High School 

With a shared commitment to a culture of excellence and success, Narembeen District High School staff create a positive student learning environment with programs that lead to improved outcomes for everyone. 

High quality teaching is at the core of the school, with staff consistently upskilling through professional learning and peer reviews, establishing school-wide programs, and seeking out new opportunities to engage and learn from one another.   

The nature of collaboration at the school empowers staff to develop their leadership skills and take on leadership roles suited to their interest or areas of expertise. 

Two Rocks Primary School 

‘High expectations’ is the mantra for both staff and students at Two Rocks Primary School, with everyone supported to reach their potential and develop their skills to become leaders. 

Teamwork is the foundation of their school leadership, with staff collectively responsible for every student’s success, working collaboratively on how best to improve student outcome. 

Always striving for perfection and self-improvement, staff are encouraged to learn and grow, trialling new ideas and strategies in the classroom, and take ownership of programs they’ve created and developed. 

Woodland Grove Primary School 

With a culture of shared leadership and responsibility at Woodland Grove Primary School, leadership potential is recognised and nurtured to provide new opportunities for staff and create unique learning environments for students. 

Through collaboration, staff foster a dynamic environment where innovation is born, and teaching practices are shared. They work together to ensure success and improvement for all students.  

High expectations are a driving force at the school, with staff regularly setting and achieving ambitious school development goals and implementing new programs to create the highest quality of education.
