Education and classroom support

Education and classroom support

Our education and classroom support roles include opportunities to work directly with students and to provide whole-of-classroom support.

Education assistants

Education assistants provide vital support to teachers and students in our classrooms. Picture yourself working with teachers, helping to prepare and maintain classrooms for learning and providing invaluable assistance to deliver engaging and effective education programs.

Whether you work with students with specific learning requirements or contribute to learning environments such as education support centres, you’ll play a key role in making a classroom thrive.

Aboriginal and Islander education officers (AIEOs)

AIEOs play an important role in creating culturally responsive schools and helping to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for Aboriginal students. They work with teachers to help include local Aboriginal history, culture and language in learning activities and promote the diverse perspectives that Aboriginal students bring to the classroom.

AIEOs work with parents, community members and school staff on student engagement, attendance and achievement. They provide positive role models for students, helping them to build their confidence and guiding them in cultural matters.

Aboriginality is considered essential for this position under section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

Student support officers

Student support workers and officers work in secondary schools or Intensive English Centres. In this role, you assist with administrative processes that ensure responsive and effective student services. You’d likely work on implementing school attendance strategies and help with student support programs.

Home economics assistants

As a home economics assistant, you’ll prepare materials and equipment for use in class so students can get stuck into learning. Your role might include preparing ingredients for recipes to be cooked by our budding student chefs or getting fabrics and notions ready for fashion designers of the future.

Laboratory technicians

Laboratory technicians help our teachers to prepare chemicals, equipment and apparatus for science classes. They manage stock levels, perform basic equipment repairs, and ensure that staff in the laboratory follow safe work procedures.
