A group of passionate teachers and community members have raised thousands of dollars to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation just by completing a daily workout.

The team from Harrisdale Primary School, known as the Harrisdale Hustlers, have completed a total of 80,069 squats for the cause.

Harrisdale Primary School staff banded together to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The efforts resulted have raised $18,672, placing them in first place on the national 58 squat challenge leaderboard.  

Funds raised will go towards supporting breast cancer research into early detection and prevention. 

The squat challenge involved completing 58 squats per day, over 31 days throughout March.  

In the past 10 years, breast cancer diagnosis in Australia have increased by 24 per cent. Each day, 58 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer.  

Megan Klompmaker, Manager corporate services at Harrisdale Primary School, established the Harrisdale Hustlers, which includes 46 members. in February this year. 

“When I first emailed the team about signing up, I did not imagine that we would achieve what we have today,” Ms Klompmaker said.  

“We will make a difference to the lives of so many.” 

Harrisdale Hustler member, Allison Owen, voiced the importance of the challenge.

Students wore pink to show their support.

“It was important for me to get involved to not only to show support for our Harrisdale family, but for my own friends and family who have been affected or are currently living with breast cancer,” Ms Owen said. 

“I found it easier to complete my squats each day when I got the students involved, or when I was with other colleagues. It was much easier as a team!  

In the past, Harrisdale Primary School students have helped to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, with events such as morning teas and dress in pink days.
