Former Belridge Secondary College graduate, Cooper Connolly, has proved to be an excellent example of how important the school’s program has been to his sporting career development.
Since graduating from the college in 2021, Cooper has achieved great success on the cricket field, having played two seasons for Perth Scorchers Big Bash League (BBL), and more recently being selected in the Australia Test Squad.
At just 21-years-old, Cooper made his debut for Australia against Sri Lanka for the second test match on 5 February, this year. He was presented with Baggy Green cap, number 471, by former cricketer and Australian cricket coach, Simon Katich.
The school’s cricket coach, Josh Hollows, is proud to have coached young players like Cooper.
"Cooper was always a very talented and grounded student who had an extremely strong work ethic right from the beginning,” Mr Hollows said.
“Cooper excelled at every level as he moved through the pathways, playing in our school First XI cricket team as a year 9, and captaining multiple Kim Hughes Shield winning teams.

“He gave up his time even after leaving school by coming back to coach the First XI team. This included a game on the day before he played in his first BBL grand final.”
“He was generous with his time helping students and speaking to any lower school students that wanted to come and meet him.”
Specialist cricket program coordinator, Scott Ogilvie, described Cooper’s leadership on and off the field as outstanding and humble.
“Cooper’s character and work ethic stood out right from the outstart,” Scott said.
“Cooper still holds the College record for the ‘highest run scorer’ at the college.”
Belridge Secondary College Associate Principal, Carlos Notarpietro, said the school community is very proud of Cooper, and his achievements.
