An empowering educator, who has dedicated decades to advocacy and equity in education, has taken out the 2025 Director General’s Women of Achievement Award.
Sevenoaks Senior College Polly Farmer Foundation Follow the Dream Coordinator Dr Jennet Hansen claimed the honour at the Department’s International Women's Day 2025 breakfast at Optus Stadium on Thursday.
Dr Jennet Hansen was named winner of the 2025 Director General’s Women of Achievement Award.
The Women of Achievement Award recognises exceptional female educators who contribute significantly to public education.
Dr Hansen was recognised for her tireless efforts to enhance educational outcomes for Aboriginal students, making a profound impact on students, families, and the community.
When accepting her award, Dr Hansen said she was overwhelmed as she wasn't expecting to win.
"I stand on the shoulders of so many great women so congratulations to the finalists," Dr Hansen said.
"I think the key to success for me has been consulting with the Aboriginal community, you need to know who you’re working with. So my first step is always go back to the Elders.
"I’m always so privileged that we have these amazing Elders come to school, come into my program and support me and I think that’s the first step.
"It’s not about my journey, it’s about the Aboriginal family and community and learning what they really want for their children and I’m there to support them."
