Working in public schools and specialised educational settings has a lot to offer psychologists with experience. If you’re not familiar with working in schools, we will support you to learn our context.

You do not need a teaching qualification to work as a school psychologist in WA public schools.

As a psychologist with general registration, you receive fantastic benefits you won’t find anywhere else, including:

  • the opportunity to work with students of different ages, cultures and backgrounds in locations across the state
  • diversity of work
  • a combination of direct work with children and young people, consultation with staff and supporting schools with whole-school change
  • 8 weeks’ vacation leave (aligned with school holidays)
  • being part of a large regional team of psychologists, from early career to experienced
  • access to our induction program (equivalent to around 25 days of professional learning)
  • 11.5% employer contributions to superannuation
  • more than 20 days of other leave, including personal leave
  • professional leadership and support
  • career development and the opportunity to move into leadership and roles in specialised settings
  • part-time work arrangements.

Our salaries are among the most generous in Australia. Psychologists with general registration start at $105,648 and can earn up to $146,769 as senior school psychologists. You can progress to a higher salary again in a lead school psychologist role.

Your work experience and previous qualifications may be considered when determining your starting salary.

Come and join us in Western Australia! We provide relocation assistance for you and your family for all permanent and fixed-term (temporary) appointments of one school year or more.

We will assist with travel and relocating your furniture, personal items and vehicle.

If you are new to school psychology, apply to our Graduate and New Talent School Psychologist Pool. This will allow you to be considered for permanent, fixed-term, full-time and part-time school psychologist vacancies in public schools.

If you have worked as a school psychologist for more than 2 years, apply to the Fixed-Term School Psychologist Pool and search for advertised school psychologist positions on JobsWA.

In the following video, experienced psychologists, Cassandra and Cara explain that they love their role in our public schools and their ability to mentor the next generation of school psychologists.
