Graduate Program

Gain valuable experience and skills across diverse areas of the agency, with senior leaders and mentors as your guides.

As a graduate, you’ll complete the Graduate Program over 2 years. You’ll sample working in different business areas before you have the opportunity for permanent appointment after a successful 12-month probation period.

Graduate placements

The Education Business Services group provides services and support to more than 800 public schools across Western Australia. Our program offers up to 6 placements over  2 years in the following business areas.

+Business and Customer Services

Business and Customer Services provides essential finance, payroll, corporate information and customer services to the Department, schools, statutory boards, the Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority and the Commissioner for Children and Young People.

+Financial and Commercial Services

You will have the chance to work across a range of functions in this stream including:

  • budget and resource management
  • budget strategy and school funding
  • financial accounting and reporting
  • financial policy and governance for schools
  • school financial management and support
  • strategic financial advice and analysis
  • contract planning and management
  • procurement of community and commercial services.
+Information and Communication Technologies

Information and Communication Technologies provides technical support for our public schools and business areas in:

  • governance and planning
  • integration, build and deployment
  • operations and customer services
  • cybersecurity.
+Infrastructure

Infrastructure leads the planning, construction and maintenance of school buildings and facilities. You will have the opportunity to work in:

  • strategy and planning
  • delivery and maintenance
  • operations
  • governance and reporting.

In addition to growing your technical knowledge and skills, you will learn to collaborate and consult with stakeholders. You will get the opportunity to contribute to policies, plans and systems that support the management of schools and related services.

You’ll develop key skills including:

  • collating data, analysis and reporting
  • contributing to the development, implementation and review of policy and procedures
  • collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and building effective working relationships
  • preparing correspondence including briefing notes, ministerial correspondence, responses to parliamentary questions and memorandums
  • researching policy and project objectives and providing input on the strategic direction of Education Business Services.
Check you are eligible to apply

To be considered for the graduate program you will need to have:

  • a tertiary degree in business, commerce, accounting or a related field, completed in the last 2 years
  • proof of eligibility to work in the WA public sector (for example, your Australian passport, Australian citizenship certificate, residency status or a visa)
  • sound verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including being able to work with people at all levels of the organisation
  • sound research, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • initiative and sound organisational skills including being able to multitask, meet deadlines and work well in a team environment.
