Housing and transport assistance
Housing and transport assistance
Subsidised employee housing is available for many teachers and some other eligible staff who work in our rural, regional and remote schools.
Rent subsidies vary in each location because they usually depend on the distance from major centres. Teachers working in the Remote Teaching Service1 receive free housing.
If you are eligible, when you’re appointed to a rural, regional or remote school, we cover the cost of relocating your furniture, personal effects and vehicles. We may also reimburse your temporary accommodation if you need it.
Depending on your location and situation, you may also be eligible for allowances to:
- reimburse you for initial utility connection fees
- cover wear and tear on furniture
- subsidise your air conditioning, gas, and vacation travel.
You may be eligible for help to rent essential furniture through our housing program.
After teaching in the same location for 2 years, you are eligible for relocation support to the Perth Metropolitan area if you resign. You need to meet the qualifying conditions for a return relocation.
This information is a summary of entitlements and eligibility. Our staff can find detailed information and apply for housing and transport assistance through Ikon, our intranet.
