Jay Peckitt has been announced as the new Director General for the Department of Education.
Mr Peckitt is currently Deputy Director General Education Business Services at the Department, where he delivers services and solutions for schools through finance, infrastructure and information and communications technology.
A passionate advocate for public education, for more than two decades Mr Peckitt has worked in senior positions across the Western Australian State Government, including nine years at the Department of Education.
He has spent time at the Department of Communities as a special advisor and has been named Chief Financial Officer of the Year and Young Leader of the Year by the Institute of Public Administration Australia.
Mr Peckitt said he looked forward to providing continuity with many of the Department’s initiatives, such as the Quality Teaching Strategy.
“WA public schools have a strong reputation of providing quality education and my goal as Director General is to build on that,” Mr Peckitt said.
“I am confident that if we give school leaders and staff the tools and backing to drive their own improvements, we can take our well-performing system to the next level.”
The appointment of Mr Peckitt is for a five-year term commencing on Monday 11 November 2024.
