Four public primary schools have been acknowledged in the WA Education Awards for their dedication to providing students with the best learning experience.
Brabham Primary school, Greenfields Primary School, Gwynne Park Primary School, and Wananami Remote Community School were named finalists in the excellence for teaching and learning (primary) category.
The award recognises primary schools with innovative and inclusive learning environments that support students to grow, learn, and succeed.
Brabham Primary School
The school’s vision of “Success for all, within a culture of excellence and inclusion” has been evident since it opened in 2021, with local communities providing input to the development of programs and opportunities for students.
With a big emphasis on leadership, student independence is fostered through a council and an environmental group, the Green Team, which allows them to take ownership and provide input on decision-making at the school.
Staff are dedicated to consistently improve learning by seeking feedback from students and taking steps to give them a unique and well-rounded learning experience.
Greenfields Primary School
As a Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy, Greenfields Primary School is committed to the ongoing development and improvement of programs and student results.
Working with students, staff encourage them to create personal goals, work towards them, and set their sights even higher, all while building on the school’s ideas of growth, resilience, integrity and tenacity.
Staff collaboration is at the forefront, as they work together to create a uniform teaching and learning practice. The school’s teaching and leadership program is held in high regards, with staff from other schools visiting to learn about their successes.
Gwynne Park Primary School
Focussing on the wellbeing of each student, Gwynne Park Primary School is committed to proving a safe and caring environment to help students achieve high expectations.
The school boasts a range of unique programs, such as the mindfulness and meditation program, martial arts, a Lego League, and an Aboriginal dance group, that promote inclusivity and cater for students with a wide variety of interests and goals.
Students have access to a hub of innovation with the school’s Makerspace and its media library and STEM centre. The hub encourages students to expand their knowledge and understanding, to prepare them for a world of opportunities in high school.
Wananami Remote Community School
Located in the Kimberley, Wananami Remote Community School thrives on its engagement with the local community and the relationships built with its students.
Inclusion is at the heart of the school, collaborating with local Aboriginal people to create learning opportunities for students, including Two-Way Science and daily language lessons, empowering students’ life with local knowledge and history.
“As a school community, we are thrilled to be acknowledged as finalists. It is a testament to the ongoing commitment of students, staff and community to work alongside one another, allowing our students to succeed as Ngarinyin people,” said principal Nikki Sandilands.
The dedication of the staff and the programs that support students’ learning have resulted in consistent improvement in student achievement and results, both individual and overall.
