Freedom of information

Freedom of information

The public has a general right to access government records. This includes records our Department controls.

The Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA) creates a general right of access to information held by all state and local government agencies.

Submit a student records request

If you're a former student or an authorised third party acting on behalf of a former student, you can request your student records outside of the freedom of information (FOI) process. This is known as direct release.

This lets you request information we hold for public schools only. For example, your primary and high school academic records, school psychological records and enrolments.

Parents of current students contact the school directly for the information you need.

Former students or authorised third parties acting on behalf of former students must:

  • lodge your request in writing
  • provide 2 forms of identification, one of which must be photographic
  • complete and provide an Authority to act form, if you're an authorised third party acting on behalf of a former student.

To submit your request:

  1. Complete the Former student document access application form.
  2. Email FOI.Enquiries@education.wa.edu.au with:
    • your completed application form
    • proof of identification
    • your completed authority to act form, if you're an authorised third party
    • these details in the email subject line: your request type, last name, first name and date of birth.

You can also post your request and supporting documents to:
