Perth student robotics stars have been invited to compete against teams from across the world in a robotics championship in Houston, Texas after shining at the national level.
Students from Kalamunda Senior High School, Ashdale Secondary College, and Lynwood Senior High School were among those who were invited to the United States following success in the FIRST Robotics competition in Wollongong.Lynwood Senior High School and Ashdale Secondary College students competed with the Curtin University team and were awarded the FIRST Impact Award in Wollongong.
The Kalamunda Senior High School team, “My Chemical Robots – Team 9191”, was awarded the Rookie All Star Award. One of the students, Toby Trent, was also presented a Dean’s List award.
While taking part in the robotics competition, the students developed their STEM, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills to help prepare them for their future.
Kalamunda Senior High School student Toby Trent said it felt great to receive the Rookie All Star Award.
“It highlighted the impact our team had created at the Wollongong event and sets a great example for other WA teams in the future,” he said.
“I joined the robotics group at school to have fun, gain experience in STEM and to expand my STEM education.”
Kalamunda Senior High School teacher Mitchell Winstanley said he was proud of all students for their efforts.
“Since joining the robotics team, all students have shown exemplary levels of maturity and developed their ability to solve problems as they arise,” he said.
“Their ability to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively has been very impressive. This is especially evident when they are showing the younger members of the robotics groups how various systems and components work.”
