If you’re a friendly, outgoing person who loves the water, help us run our popular swimming programs across the state.

There are more than 180 locations in metropolitan and regional WA where you can work.
Swimming instructor requirements
To get a swimming instructor job with us, you must:
- be at least 17 years old
- have a current CPR certificate
- have a swimming instructor qualification
- have a Working with Children Check1, or have applied for one
- have a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check2 and screening clearance number if you're over 18.
We recognise these swimming instructor qualifications:
- AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TWS) Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW) accreditation3
- Royal Life Saving WA Swim Teacher accreditation4
- SWIM Coaches and Teachers Australia Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT) qualification5.
As part of the swim teacher qualification, you need to complete workplace training. Our training centres provide a safe and nurturing environment for all trainees.

Complete your workplace training at one of our designated training centres.
You will learn and experience the role of a swimming instructor in a positive, safe and supportive environment.
Work placements are generally 2 weeks, from Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 2 pm.
To complete your workplace training with us, you need to:
- have attended the face-to-face workshop with your course provider
- be at least 17 years old
- have a current CPR qualification.
If you're over 18, you also need to have a current:
- Working with Children Check1, or have applied for one
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check2 and screening clearance number.
If you're under 18, you need to get a Working with Children Check after you complete workplace training. This makes you eligible for paid employment.

Water safety officer requirements
To get a water safety officer job with us, you must:
- be at least 17 years old
- have a Surf Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate
- have a Working with Children Check, or have applied for one
- have a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and screening clearance number if you're over 18.
If you meet these requirements, the next step is to register to work.
