Southwest students have taken part in a festive intergenerational arts and crafts project with a local social club.
Cape Naturaliste College students joined Silverchain’s Margaret River social centre to make hand-printed Christmas wrapping paper and clay ornaments.
Participants made hand-printed wrapping paper.
The intergenerational arts project connected people of different ages ahead of the Christmas season to provide meaningful social interactions.
During the sessions, participants also enjoyed sharing morning tea while learning more about each other.
This was the second time the group had come together at workshops designed to bridge generational gaps through art activities.
The first workshops were held earlier in the year and involved students painting portraits of clients from the social centre.
Cape Naturaliste College visual arts teacher Bernadette Woods said the program was a positive learning experience for the students.
“It was great to see how the students and the older generation discover their commonalities, appreciate their differences, and learn to value what each other bring to the experience,” she said.
The wrapping paper created will be used as part of a community gift wrapping service, through gold-coin donation, at the social centre in the lead up to Christmas.
