The latest cohort of exceptional students have been selected to join the Western Australia Student Council.
Eleven passionate new members, chosen through a rigorous selection process, will replace the outgoing councillors. Representing the diverse regions of WA, these students were selected for their remarkable leadership skills, academic and cultural contributions, and commitment to making a positive difference in their school communities.
The students, who now have the chance to amplify student voices and shape the future of education policy in the state, were announced by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti this week.
The council, established in September 2022, is composed of Year 10 and 11 public school students who serve as a bridge between their peers and the Department of Education.
Over the past year, the outgoing council members provided critical insights on key topics, including the integration of artificial intelligence in education, access to mental health resources, such as wellbeing officers and chaplains, and the Pathways to Post-School Success Review.
Their contributions have informed significant initiatives such as the Quality Teaching Strategy, and they have represented student perspectives at conferences and panel discussions statewide.
