Singing in Quay

Elizabeth Quay was a sight to behold when more than 1,300 West Australian students came together to sing and dance to help children in need.

Students from more than 40 primary schools across the state transformed the boardwalk into a sea of different coloured school uniforms. 

The WA Massed Choir descended upon Elizabeth Quay to lend their voices to a rendition of Guy Sebastian’s ‘Choir’, bringing to life this year’s Telethon theme ‘Incredible Together’. 

The atmosphere was buzzing as the young talents prepared for their on-air moment. 

Burrendah Primary School teacher Jenny Coleman said, “The children have been so excited about today. They’ve been practicing hard; you can even hear them singing the song in the playground.” 

Izzy from Harmony Primary School and Finn from Burrendah Primary School were among the excited students. 

“We’ve been practicing since halfway through last term,” Izzy said.  

“Choir is a place where you can be yourself. If you mess up, don’t worry, just keep singing,” Finn said. 

Harmony Primary School music teacher Kate Graham said that the WA Massed Choir gives students a sense of belonging, especially for students who face challenges in the classroom. 

“It can give them an outlet, somewhere to belong,” she said. 

The production at the Quay was the finale to a long stint of filming for Telethon, with individual school choirs featured belting out the hit rom Karratha and Northampton,from Karratha and Northampton to Albany, Mount Barker, and even on Rottnest Island.

The WA Massed Choir Festival takes place at HBF Stadium from 30 October to 8 November, with eight concerts showcasing the talents of Western Australia’s young people. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
