Ten students have been selected for a once-in-a-lifetime tour to deepen their understanding of the Anzac legacy.
The students will travel to Japan next year after successfully applying to participate in the 2025 Premier’s Anzac Student Tour.
The students were selected from schools across the state, including from Broome, Kalbarri, Geraldton, Perth, and Norseman.
Students will travel to Japan from 17 to 27 April 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
While in Japan, they will also have the opportunity to reflect on the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and recognise the significant acts of reconciliation that have occurred between our nations since this time.
Coordinator Karen Lamond said the students’ applications were assessed by a panel, including representatives from Australian War Widows, RSLWA, and teachers who have previously attended the Premier’s Anzac Student Tour.
“Immersion in history through overseas tours makes learning more engaging, relevant, and impactful,” she said.
“By broadening perspectives through interactions with local experts and discussions with peers and teachers, and by seeing the places where historical events occurred, students deepen their understanding of the complexities of historical events.”
The Premier’s Anzac Student Tour is an annual competition open to all WA students in Years 8 to 11.
Since 2004, a total of 266 students have been selected to participate in the program. Refer to our website to find out more about the Premier’s Anzac Student Tour.
