A secondary school has established a bike repair station to promote active lifestyles among the school community and their neighbours.
The new bike repair station at Comet Bay College in Secret Harbour encourages more students to participate in active transport by riding a bike or scooter to school.
Comet Bay College students are pumped with their new bike repair station.
The new installation is located near the bike racks and is accessible to both students and members of the public. It includes tools to repair a range of bike issues including deflated tyres.
Comet Bay College science head of department Jess Wilkins, who is also a member of the school’s eco team and sustainability committee, said she hoped the station would further boost active transport.
“To reduce our carbon footprint and promote healthy lifestyles, we would love to see more students choosing to walk, ride or scooter to school each and every day,” she said.
“This station has all the tools needed to fix any minor bicycle mishaps, including a foot pump to inflate flat tyres.”
The bike repair station was funded by a Department of Transport Connecting Schools Grant after students participated in the Your Move program.
