Teacher appointment and transfer for 2025
Teacher appointment and transfer for 2025
We have changed the way we appoint and transfer teaching staff in our metropolitan schools for the start of 2025.
The start of each new school year is an important time for students, staff, and the wider school community. Our preparedness to welcome students makes a difference in their school experience. A core part of this preparedness is teacher stability.
We’ve made changes to the way we appoint and transfer teaching staff in our metropolitan schools in the lead-up to the start of each school year.
- Changes to transfers and appointments
- Permanent teachers, including graduates
- Teachers on a fixed-term (temporary) contract, including graduates
- Teachers not yet engaged in a teaching contract for 2025
These changes are as follows.
- The movement of teachers between schools should only occur during the term break, unless arranged to suit both schools. This gives students continuity until the end of the term and minimises disruption to students and staff.
- Between 29 November 2024 and 14 February 2025, fixed-term (temporary) teaching positions in most metropolitan schools can only be filled by a teacher who does not already have an appointment for the beginning of the 2025 school year.
This does not apply to regional schools or the following metropolitan secondary schools:
- Coodanup College
- Coastal Lakes College
- Halls Head College
- John Tonkin College
- Pinjarra Senior High School
- Waroona District High School
All schools can continue to make appointments to permanent positions without restriction.
As a permanent teacher, you have an ongoing position in your school at your permanent work fraction. You can apply for, be considered for, and accept permanent positions at any time during the year. You can apply for permanent positions through advertised positions or the transfer pool.
Up until 29 November 2024, principals can consider you for fixed-term teaching positions that begin at the start of Term 1, 2025. With the support of your substantive principal, you can:
- accept the offered fixed-term position
- have your substantive, permanent position held for you.
This is for all fixed-term positions, even if you applied through a merit selection process.
After 29 November 2024 and until 14 February 2025, you will not be considered for a fixed-term teaching position in a metropolitan school for the start of the 2025 school year.
